MANILA — Malacañang on Tuesday confirmed that National Youth Commission (NYC) Chairperson Carina “Aiza” Seguerra has resigned from her post.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Office of the Executive Secretary has received Seguerra’s resignation letter.
Roque said that although he has not yet spoken to the NYC chairperson, he said that her letter has already reached the President.
In a Facebook post, the former youth commission chair said Duterte has already accepted his resignation.
“I met with our dear President last March 5th to tender my resignation as NYC Chairperson. I coordinated with his office because I wanted to personally tell him my reason. Knowing how social media can exaggerate or twist the truth, I wanted to make sure that he’s going to hear it from me. He was very understanding and supportive of my decision,” Seguerra said.
Seguerra was appointed as NYC chairperson in August 2016.
She, together with her wife Film Development Council of the Philippines chairman Liza Diño-Seguerra, had campaigned for Duterte during the May 2016 national elections.
Seguerra has continuously pushed for Sangguniang Kabataan (youth) elections to push through noting that youth must be given a chance to have more representation in government.
