Duterte to kick out ‘deadwood’ local gov’t officials

By , on January 17, 2018

“Deadwood” officials in the local government whose performances are not conforming to what is expected of them are bound to be ousted by President Rodrigo Duterte.

“I’m warning the local government officials. I do not want to threaten you but you just do your duty. Also, because, remember, I can always suspend or dismiss you if I want to,” the President said.

Though it is not in the president’s power to do this, he said he could make it happen through an administrative complaint.

“I’m not the Ombudsman but, administratively, I can hang you so do it,” he said.

Duterte stressed that local government officials who are laxly seated in their positions should just go since they are leaving all the works to him and the authorities.
“Those governors and mayors who are deadwoods or who do nothing and let me, the police and the Armed Forces to take care of everything and you are not doing anything to serve your constituents including dying for your people, get out there,” he said.

“Those who are afraid to die or get sick —you get out. I said: Not during my time,” he added.
