The decision to extend martial law and the suspension of the privilege of the writ of habeas does not mean that the Duterte administration desires an “unlimited martial law” but it aims to allow government troops to better protect Mindanao, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said.
“We do not ask for an unlimited martial law. What we are seeking is an unlimited peace,” Medialdea said during the joint session of Congress for the second extension of martial law.
Medialdea stressed the need to extend martial law as this will ensure the safety of the public and will end the rebellion in the region.
He said that the armed forces and police personnel remain steadfast in their commitment as a protector of our people and in their duty to secure the sovereignty of the state and the integrity of the national territory.
