Solano bares names of frat brods in Senate hazing probe

By , on December 22, 2017

The Senate on Wednesday released the sworn affidavit of fratman John Paul Solano, one of the primary suspects in the hazing death of Horacio “Atio” Castillo III. In the affidavit, Solano named his Aegis Juris fraternity brothers whom he saw the morning when Atio was lying unconscious at the Aegis Juris library in Manila.

Solano named Oliver John Audrey “Ojay” Onofre, Axel Munro Hipe, Arvin Balag, Mark Anthony Ventura, Zack Abulencia and Dan Ragos.
Solano also 1 non-fraternity member, Romeo Laboga, the family driver of the Trangias who helped bring Castillo to the Chinese General Hospital.

The affidavit was made on Sept. 25, 2017 during an executive session of the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs.

Onofre, Hipe, Balag and Ventura all invoked their right against self-incrimination when asked by committee chairman Senator Panfilo Lacson to confirm Solano’s testimony.

Solano said in his affidavit that it was Arvin Balag who told him to lie about where he found Atio.

“Arvin Balag said: Tell them you found him in Balut, Tondo.”

Balag, believed to be the president of the Aegis Juris Fraternity, was cited in contempt during the hearing after he repeatedly refused to answer questions by invoking his right against self-incrimination.
