By , on December 22, 2017

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista’s resignation is “effective immediately” after Malacañang accepted it on Monday.

In a press conference, Bautista announced, “This afternoon I already received the response from the Office of the President signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea saying my resignation has been accepted effective immediately.”

The poll chief said that he felt mixed emotions upon receiving the Palace’s response. Although Bautista is leaving his post, he said that felt relief since being a Comelec chair entails big responsibility.

He added that he will be missing Comelec employees whom he regarded as “good and honest people.”

Moreover, he advised his future successor to have patience and to rely on their senior officials in the field.

Bautista said that he is ready to face any charges that may be filed against him after stepping down.
