Senators seek higher budget for SUC’s free tuition

By , on December 11, 2017

In hopes of having more educated Filipinos, senators call for a higher budget allocation for the free tuition in state universities and colleges.

They have seen that the proposed budget of Malacañang is not enough to sustain the program.

According to the Commission on Higher Education, the agency has set aside 8.3 billion pesos for free tuition in SUCs.

Meanwhile, Senator Joseph Ejercito urged economic managers to reconsider their opposition by pushing for free SUC education so that there will be a college graduate in every Filipino family.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian also asked the Duterte administration to devote more resources in expanding access to educational opportunities at the tertiary level.

He added that as of now a budget of 15 billion is the projected amount needed to pursue the program.
