MANILA —The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will deploy composite teams from its District Engineering Office nationwide to assist motorists and the general public from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, 2017, as part of the agency’s Lakbay Alalay Program for the All Saints Day.
DPWH assistance units will be available on strategic locations starting 5 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 30, 2017) until 12 noon of Thursday (Nov. 2, 2017) to provide personal and prompt assistance on normal and emergency situations on a round-the-clock shift.
The teams will consist of engineers, mechanics, equipment operators and other service crews to give free roadside emergency repair assistance to travellers.
DPWH Regional Office 5 reported a total of 31 DPWH Motorists Assistance Groups would be formed throughout Bicol Region.
DPWH Region 5, thru the Maintenance Division, will also run a “skeletal force” to attend to public concerns during the period of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, where volumes of vehicle on major national roads leading to provinces are expected to increase with the influx of motorists and travellers to respective hometowns for the traditional Undas.
Earlier, DPWH prepared the roads by conducting maintenance works to ensure smooth travel for motorists for the coming All Saints’ Day rush.
National roads leading to both public and private cemeteries were provided with reflectorized pavement markings and installed with legible kilometer posts and directional signs.
Contractors of on-going road projects were also directed to install necessary safety barriers and provide traffic advisories.
DPWH teams will be coordinating with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP) and officials of Local Government Units (LGU) for necessary assistance.
