ILOILO CITY — The spokesperson of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog denied that the local chief executive had been dismissed, contrary to text messages circulating in the city on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Atty. Mark Piad, who received information about the alleged dismissal order late Tuesday evening, said he got in touch with the office of the city mayor if there were notices coming from the Office of the Ombudsman or from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). So far, there is none.
The alleged dismissal stemmed from a complaint filed by Manuel Mejorada on some discrepancies in the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) of Mabilog sometime in 2012.
However, Piad said the complaint was properly responded to and Mabilog was able to show proof with regard to what he had declared in his SALN.
Mejorada also said he had not received any official document regarding the alleged dismissal. He recalled that he filed three complaints against Mabilog for alleged violation of the SALN Law.
Mabilog left for Japan last week of August 2017 for a seminar on disaster risk reduction (DRR) organized by the Citynet –Yokohama where he talked about “Mainstreaming DRR within City Governments.”
He proceeded to Melaka, Malaysia September 6-9 for the Urban Environmental Accord (UEA) Summit where he talked about the Iloilo River Project during the presentation of best practices.
Thereafter, the mayor, who is suffering from Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, filed a 15-day sick leave starting September 11, which he extended until end of this month. (PNA)
