Foton, Petron prevail at opening of Superliga Grand Prix

MANILA — Defending champion Foton bounced back from a third set loss to prevail over Cignal on Saturday night at the start of the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga 9PSL) Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Serbian Sara Klisura scored 27 points while 2016 MVP Jaja Santiago added 19 points as the Tornadoes pulled off a 25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22 win over the Cignal HD Spikers.

Australian Beth Carey led Cignal with 20 points while Rachel Anne Daquis and American Alexis Matthews contributed nine points each.

On the other hand, Petron also won its opening-day match against Generika-Ayala, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19.

Imports Hillary Hurley and Lindsay Stalzer led the Blaze Spikers with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Locals Ria Meneses and Mika Reyes made three blocks apiece.

Croatian Katarina Pilepic topscored for the Lifesavers with 14 points while Darlene Ramdin of Trinidad and Tobago chipped in nine points.

Meanwhile, Generika-Ayala will face Cocolife at 7 p.m. while Sta. Lucia will meet Iriga City at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday in the same venue. (PNA)
