A revised version of Bangsamaro Basic Law (BBL), readied by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), will be filed next week at the House of Representatives.
Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas made the statement on Thursday morning following a Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday night.
Fariñas told reporters that the bill for the BBL, proposed by the BTC, will be filed next week.
“The President informed us that he will leave to the wisdom of the Congress the final version of the BBL,” he added.
In a ceremony last July 17, President Rodrigo Duterte swore to establish a Bangsamoro country. During the event, the BTC also formally turned over their preliminary version of the BBL to the president.
“May I say to you, my brother Moros, that I commit to support – in front of everybody – my covenant with you that I will support and husband this instrument as it goes in the legislator for its consideration,” Duterte said.
The President added that there will be no objections of the provisions of all that is consistent with the Constitution and the aspiration of the Moro people.
Duterte has yet to guarantee the BBL as something that requires immediate action, however, he has constantly made the commitment. Once confirmed as urgent, the Congress is expected to pass the contentious bill within the year.
