KUALA LUMPUR — The Philippines defeated Malaysia, 2-0, on Monday to reach the championship round of the 29th Southeast Asian Games men’s team squash competition here.
Robert Andrew Garcia downed Ng Eain Yow, 11-8, 11-3, 11-7 in the first match, while Juan Rafael Yan rallied past Darren Rahul Pragasam, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 4-11,11-8, in their semifinal match at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.
The Philippines will be up against Singapore in the final to be played on Tuesday.
Singapore scored a 2-0 victory over Indonesia in the other semifinal match.
Benedict Chan Jia Wei prevailed over Ade Furkon, 11-5, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8, while Pang Ka Hoe downed Eris Setiawan, 11-3, 11-6, 11-6.
In the women’s division, the Philippines lost to Singapore, 1-2, to settle for the bronze medal.
Jemyca Aribado won over Sneha Sivakumar, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 to give the Philippines a 1-0 lead but Isabella Gotuaco bowed to Chua Ying Li Pamela, 3-11, 8-11, 3-11, and Yvonne Alyssa Dalida also fell to Au Yeong Wai Yhann, 2-11, 8-11, 6-11.
Singapore advanced to the final against Malaysia, which scored a 2-0 win over Indonesia.
Andrea Lee Jis Qi outplayed Catur Juliana, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8, while Lai Wen Li prevailed over Rinduri Maulida Amasty, 11-4, 11-5, 11-8.
