5.5-magnitude earthquake rocks Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture

TOKYO, Aug 2 — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 rocked Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture at 2:02 a.m. local time, Japan Meteorological Agency said Wednesday.

The temblor occurred with the epicenter at a latitude of 36.8 degrees north and a longitude of 140.6 degrees east and at depth of 10 km.

The quake logged 4 in some parts of Ibaraki prefecture and Fukushima prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7 and could be felt in Tokyo.

So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
