MOSCOW—Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday the Russian government is committed to work with the Philippines to fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

“I would like to reiterate our commitment to working together in security sphere, in fighting terrorism or fighting drug trafficking and other matters,” Lavrov said in his bilateral meeting with Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano at the House of Receptions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.

The minister noted that the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte in Russia signaled the development of stable ties between the two countries.

During the bilateral meeting, Cayetano Russia’s support to strengthen security and intelligence cooperation will help in the current developments in Mindanao.

During this visit, the two countries signed an agreement on defense cooperation and exchange of intelligence information which will help the Philippine government’s war against terrorism particularly in the southern part of the country.

“So let me again express our gratitude for Russia’s offer to share your expertise, experience and vast knowledge in the field of security and fighting terrorism,” Cayetano said.
