MANILA –A 35-year old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was allegedly maltreated by her employer in Amman, Jordan is now under the custody of the overseas office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
According to Labor Attaché Florenda Herrera, OFW Josalyn Ombe, from San Andres Bukid, Manila is at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.
“We are looking after Ms. Ombe and the POLO is providing her security and requirement,” she said in a statement.
Ombe was reported to have first sought assistance from a tabloid, where she exposed the maltreatment she was experiencing from her employer, whom she named as Ahmed Saleem Marashdeh of Madaba Amman, Jordan.
It was learned that the OFW was redeployed on Nov. 30, 2016 to Jordan as a household service worker by World Class Inc. Agency.
The POLO-Jordan is closely monitoring the case for further developments but has already made some coordination regarding the victim’s legal action against her employer.
Meanwhile, the DOLE has given financial and livelihood assistance to the family of another OFW who was killed in Jordan on Feb. 5.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello personally handed over the financial assistance to Natividad Dalupang, mother of the victim Felma Dalupang Maramag.
As an active member of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), her family received Php220,000 financial assistance and scholarship assistance for her daughter Angelica from OWWA; Php50,000 from the recruitment agency, and Php500,000 in life insurance.
The OWWA will also provide livelihood assistance to OFW’s family as part of the benefits of Maramag from the agency.
The agency will also be coordinating with the family of Maramag regarding the release of the victim’s savings in the bank amounting to Php200,000.
Marama’s remains have been transported to her province in Tuguegarao City and will be interred on Feb. 28, 2017.
It can be recalled that the dead bodies of Maramag and her employer were discovered by a police officer upon responding to a call regarding a fire in the place where the deceased OFW was employed.
An autopsy report revealed that the OFW sustained a stab wound on the head, a broken skull due to blunt force trauma, and bruises all over her body.
