MANILA—The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has conducted clearing operations of sidewalk vendors and illegally parked vehicles in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City as the agency starts the implementation of jeepney regulation along EDSA Monday.

MMDA supervising operations officer Bong Nebrija said the vendors’ stalls located along the side streets were removed while their goods and wares were confiscated by the MMDA.

Furthermore, the agency has towed four vehicles for illegal parking.

Nebrija reiterated that jeepneys will no longer be allowed to pass through EDSA and they should only traverse through streets adjacent to the major thoroughfare.

“We will continue coordinating with barangay officials of Guadalupe Nuevo,” he said.

Starting today, public utility jeepneys (PUJs) are no longer allowed to pass EDSA-Guadalupe as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reviews the franchise of passenger jeepneys passing through the thoroughfare as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion.

The initiative aims to lessen traffic in EDSA by diverting buses and jeepneys to other routes.

The regulation would be implemented by sector and initially, in the Guadalupe area since PUJs making a turn to Cloverleaf Park were causing heavy traffic up to Estrella.

MMDA has earlier coordinated with Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo officials about the closure of the P. Burgos exit to EDSA.
