MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said that the ‘Project Double Barrel Alpha’ is needed in the all-out war against drugs.
The PNP is the lead agency in the government’s all-out war against illegal drugs.
During the Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC) media forum on Tuesday night, Dela Rosa said that there was a need for the activation of ‘Project Double Barrel Alpha’ because they were seeing that upon reaching more than 600,000, which was the number of drug surrenderers, it made a “plateau.”
Hence, Dela Rosa said, they encouraged the policemen to reinvigorate the campaign against illegal drugs.
Because of this, he said, the number of surrenderers peaked to 700,000 plus.
The PNP chief noted that at 700,000 plus number of surrenders, however, it slowed down.
Dela Rosa said that in order for the PNP to cover all the symptoms, they decided to also include the other sectors of society in ‘Oplan Tokhang.’
Under ‘Oplan Tokhang’ (knock/request), the PNP visits the house of suspected drug personality and ask him/her to turn back from their illegal activity, surrender or undergo rehabilitation.
Dela Rosa said that with the project double barrel alpha, the PNP’s target of 1.8 million drug surrenderers can be achieved.
He added that the project double barrel alpha is more extensive as they included the schools, workplaces, factories, the labor force there, as well as the entertainment industry, including the celebrities.
