This was the advise of Senator Panfilo Lacson on Monday to the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who will be summoned to a Senate investigation on extra-judicial killings on Aug. 22.
“Magsabi sila ng totoo dahil mahirap pagka nag-sinungaling sila, malalaman [They should tell the truth because it will be hard to lie, their lies will be exposed],” Lacson said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and other PNP officials as well as Justice officials and members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) are being summoned for a Senate probe on Aug. 22.
Lacson, however, said police officials who would be summoned, should keep their cool and not panic while attending the hearing.
“But keep their cool. Huwag silang mag panic kasi baka naman mapahamak sila [they might get themselves into trouble],” he said.
According to Lacson, he had a preliminary meeting with the PNP Monday with regard to the upcoming Senate hearing.
Lacson, former PNP chief, spearheaded the flag-raising ceremony in the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame Monday morning.
“Pinagsa-submit namin sila ng position paper para hindi ganoon mahaba yung hearing sa Thursday [I am asking them to submit a position paper so the hearing on Thursday will not take too long],” he said.
Lacson had earlier expressed alarm over the spate of extra judicial killings conducted by vigilante groups amid the administration’s directive to stop the proliferation of drugs in the country.
