BAGUIO CITY—Students from and outside the Saint Louis University (SLU) in Baguio City warmly accepted on Saturday calls by Presidential aspirant Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and Vice Presidential bet Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to fight corruption and for national unity.
The tandem presented their respective platforms to the 4,000 students inside the jam-packed Prince Bernard gymnasium of the university.
Both were welcomed by cheers that greeted “Miriam-Bongbong” when they entered the gymnasium.
The lady senator also presented her proposal to ease traffic congestion in the city, which is also overcrowded, by promoting the use of bicycle and fixed terminals for public transportation.
“We will promote bicycle and pedestrian lane, provide areas more bus stops and fixed point to point system of mass transportation. Baguio has over 380,000 residents, but it is only built to 30,000 people,” she said.
Santiago has reiterated her call for the youth to ask their parents, relatives and friends to choose their candidates wisely.
“Sabihin nyo sila na pagisipang mabuti ang mga kandidatong kanilang susuportahan,” she added.
The People’s Reform Party (PRP) standard bearer also expressed trust and confidence with the students and the youth as the ones that will chart the better future of the country.
“I can see the future in the horizon and that future is in your hands,” she said.
For his part, Marcos noted that the intelligent choice for the highest positions in the land has arrived, referring to their tandem.
“Andito na sa harap ninyo ang intelligent choice. Dito lang kayo makakarinig ng tunay na solusyon sa mga problemang hinaharap at hindi lang panliligaw sa inyo kundi tunay na pagpapaganda sa buhay ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.
The independent vice presidential candidate added the first step towards progress is unity of all the Filipinos even as he called on the youth to join him in his campaign for unity and cooperation.
“Ang unang hakbang ay kilusan ng pagkakaisa. Sa liderato ng Miriam-Bongbong, ito ay magkakatotoo kaya samahan ninyo kami sa kilusang ito,” Marcos added.
The senator’s unity caravan has visited the summer capital of the country, where he met officials and members of Rotary Club in Baguio City on the latter’s 19th Chartered Anniversary at the Newtown Plaza Hotel in the city.
