MANILA—Five young people were escorted outside the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) after disrupting the ongoing vice presidential debate, particularly during the opening statement of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., on Sunday.

The members of the Youth Alarm (Alliance against the return of the Marcoses) were escorted out of the venue by security personnel several minutes after the start of the first and only vice presidential debate sponsored by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) together with CNN Philippines and Business Mirror, in connection with the May 9 polls.

Marcos momentarily stopped in delivering his statement after students started shouting, “Never again, never again to Martial Law” that disrupted the proceedings.

This prompted one of the hosts of the program, Pinky Webb, to remind the audience that such act is prohibited at the event.

The group did not resist when security personnel escorted them out of the debate hall, which is located at the 3rd floor of the building and eventually led them outside the facility.

The debate between the candidates running for the second highest post in the land was held at the UST, where all the VP aspirants were present.

They are Senators Gregorio Honasan, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Francis Escudero, Antonio Trillanes and Alan Peter Cayetano, and Rep.

Leni Robredo.
