MANILA – After taking a break from showbiz when she got pregnant with her first child five years ago, Kapuso actress Regine Velasquez-Alcasid makes a return with GMA 7’s upcoming primetime series “Poor Señorita.”

In the romantic-comedy series, Velasquez portrays Rita Villon, a strict and uncompromising businesswoman who owns an established perfume company and is feared by her subordinates. Later on, however, she suffers cancer, loses her business and ends up on the streets where she meets five street children who help her get by.

“That’s when the adventure starts,” the actress says during the press conference of the upcoming program.

“With this soap, I have to be consistent in terms of movements. I have little gestures, little mannerisms para kapag nabago siya ng panahon, makikita mo rinyung difference, na binago siya ng experience niya,” she says of the character.

Joining Velasquez in the series are Ayra Mariano, Jillian Ward, Miggs Cuaderno, Zymic Jaranilla and Caprice Cayetano who play as the street children and Mikael Daez as Paeng, the lead character’s love interest. Kapuso stars Sheena Halili, Kevin Santos, Valeen Montenegro, Jaya, Ervic Vijande, Ralph Noriega, Snooky Serna and Elyson De Dios are also part of the supporting cast.

When the media started asking for her opinion on the difficult working condition in television, the 45-year-old actress simply wants regulation on the working hours.

“We also want to perform to the best of our abilities. We don’t want to get sick because we know that the production and the show that we’re doing will suffer… [But] we don’t want to demand (in a ridiculous way), we don’t want that. We wanted it regulated only,” she explains.

Poor Señorita, directed by Dominic Zapata, airs its pilot episode on March 28 on GMA Telebabad.
