MANILA – With the Holy Week rush expected to begin this weekend, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that it will maintain strong police visibility in various bus terminals, seaports and airports nationwide to ensure that nothing untoward will happen during the annual holiday.

This was stressed by PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez in a briefing Monday, adding that they already have a “template” for such holidays.

Palm Sunday this year will fall on March 20 with Maundy Thursday on March 24 and Good Friday on March 25 while Easter Sunday is on March 27.

Traditionally, private and public offices start the Lenten holiday from Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday.

He added this deployment was done to ensure that “areas of convergence” are secure from possible threats.

In line with this, Marquez said the presence of police personnel in the aforementioned areas will be constant until all Holy Week travelers are safely back in their homes.
