MANILA—To better serve the indigent patients in the provinces, the PDP-LABAN tandem of Rodrigo Duterte and Alan Peter Cayetano vowed to establish specialty hospitals in key areas of the country if elected to the nation’s two highest positions during the May 9 elections.

Duterte is the party’s presidential bet while Cayetano is the former’s running mate.

Mayor Duterte disclosed this during his visit to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City Friday.

Cayetano said Northen Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao should have their own Heart Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Lung Center, Orthopedic Center, and Children’s Hospital and Cancer Research and Treatment Center.

“Through PhilHealth, sin taxes and the national budget, Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao should have specialty hospitals. It is technically and financially viable and good for the people,” he said.

Having such centers in the provinces will help reduce suffering of poor patients.

Also, Cayetano said he and Duterte will push for the full coverage of the Philippine Health Insurance Company along with full implementation of PhilHealth’s “zero billing” services to members.
