MANILA—A huge crowd is expected to welcome PDP-LABAN presidential bet Rodrigo Duterte and his running mate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, as the tandem will visit Davao City Saturday for their southern leg campaign.

The first stop of the Davao sortie will be a huge rally on Feb. 13 at the New City Hall of Tagum City in Apokon, Tagum City—the center of Davao Del Norte.

After that, the PDP-LABAN tandem will attend the Thanksgiving and Worship presentation by Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy on Feb. 14 at the open field of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Buhangin, Davao City.

The activity starts at 5:30 p.m.

On Feb. 15, Duterte and Cayetano will hold a public rally in Tagoloan and El Salvador in Misamis Oriental.

The tandem shares the advocacy of putting up a microfinance program for the poor.

Duterte and Cayetano have always forayed into hunger issues even before the election’s official campaign period started.

At their proclamation rally in Moriones, Tondo last Feb. 9, the duo said only a responsibly-run micro-credit program can help uplift many Filipinos mired in poverty.

“But you have to pay your loans on time,” Duterte told the throng of maruya (saba banana) vendors, street hawkers, public toilet attendants, vulcanizing hands, and food stall owners in Tondo, the country’s stereotyped symbol of urban blight and official neglect.

Cayetano earlier said while micro-credit may be a key anti-poverty approach, Filipinos must be disciplined enough to appreciate the value of repaying debts through hard work.

Duterte proposed this again on Wednesday, inside a jampacked basketball gym at the University of Cagayan Valley in Tuguegarao City.

The personal commitment to help put food on the Filipino’s table was met with warm applause from the young audience.
