Ronnie “Pixnoy” del Carmen, the Filipino co-director of Pixar’s box-office hit, “Inside Out,’ received good news for their animated movie at the 73rd Golden Globe nominations announcement.

Co-directed by Pete Docter, Del Carmen’s Inside Out was nominated alongside “Anomalisa,” “The Good Dinosaur,” “The Peanuts Movie,” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie” for the best animated film category of the highly-anticipated Golden Globe Awards in 2016.

A few hours after the announcement, both directors couldn’t help but share their ‘Joy.’ Here are their statements published in an Inquirer.net report:

“It has been incredibly humbling to see the reception to Inside Out by audiences around the world. We set out to make a film that would help us better understand our children, but never imagined it would have the impact that it has. We could not be more thrilled or filled with ‘Joy’ to receive this nomination,” Docter said.

“Pete Docter asked me to be his co-director more than five years ago. Back then, I thought I won the lottery already. And today, we’re nominated for a Golden Globe!,” Del Carmen said.

“Making this movie is one for the ages. As human beings, we find it hard to talk about our emotions because it’s scary! Pete’s concept makes those conversations easier from now on, because we have these friendly characters to help us through them,” he added.

“I am calling my mother! I grew up halfway across the globe in the Philippines watching movies and movie awards shows. Now, I’m part of a movie that is nominated for a Golden Globe! Crazy! I am so lucky to be working at Pixar and ever grateful to John Lasseter (Pixar’s chief creative officer) for making sure that our studio supports ideas like Inside Out. Mabuhay!”

Earlier this year, the 55-year-old director was recognized by his alma mater, the University of Santo Tomas (UST), for being an outstanding alumnus.

Dream Come True

Being a former advertising art director back in his motherland, Del Carmen disclosed that helping create Inside Out was a dream come true as he has always adored movies but never thought that he would one day make one.

“It’s kind of a surreal experience because I just watched movies here (Philippines) growing up,” he said in an earlier interview with The Associated Press, back when he was promoting the film in Asia.

“It’s an amazing experience because I’m not just coming home, there’s a movie I helped make that’s opening here… It’s a dream come true,” he added.

In his early years in the United States, the Filipino director worked as a story board artist for Pixar and as the story supervisor for DreamWorks. Now, he has set his foot to directing as well.
