MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A banner field of 24 teams comprise the regular season of the Federation of Touch Football Pilipinas (FTFP) which kicked off more than a week ago in two separate venues.
The Ladies division attracted the most number of teams with 17 divided into two groups, while seven squads are entered in the men’s side of the ‘Puma Touch League.’
International schools, local colleges, and several club teams make up this year’s roster, including first timers Makati Mavericks and Isla Rugby FC.
FTFP president Clair Barberis welcomed the entry of Puma as the federation’s new partner in its various endeavors.
“It’s a big development on our part,” said Barberis in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday at Shakey’s Malate, referring to the partnership the FTFP forged with one of the world’s top sports apparel.
“It (Puma) committed to support even the national team in future tournaments particularly in the Asian Club Championships in 2016.”
Teams from the three divisions will play a single round robin format, culminating in the top four advancing to the playoffs.
Games are being played every Saturday and Sunday with the ladies finals set on January 16 and the men’s side set the following day.
