MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The newly elected Prime Minister of Canada has just arrived at the Ninoy International Airport on Tuesday afternoon to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit this week.
Trudeau was welcomed by Philippine agriculture Secretary Process Alcala and Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines Neil Reeder. The APEC summit in the Philippines is one of his first official trips as new prime minister of Canada.
His first trip was in Turkey on Nov. 15-16 to attend the G20 leaders’ meeting, and will go to Commonwealth leaders’ gathering in Malta and will have climate talks in Paris that will start by the end of this month.
The State Department’s Matt Matthews welcomed the Canadian prime minister into the APEC family.
Trudeau will work with his counterparts in APEC summit to “promote sustainable economic growth, with a focus on small and medium enterprises, and to enhance social inclusion and institution building,” and will also have bilateral talks to “advance issues of mutual interest.”
