The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) with the Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency had raided dormitories at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday.

Among the seized contrabands were electronic gadgets, such as, mobile phones and chargers; firearms; airsoft guns; wooden knuckles; bladed weapons; drug paraphernalia and a civet cat.

Cash in P1,000 denominations amounting to P140,000 were also confiscated.

The dormitories were occupied by members of prison gangs Commando, De Cuerna, Genuine Ilocano and Sigue-sigue Sputnik, according to Msgr. Robert Olaguer, spokesperson of the Bureau of Corrections.

“I think the firearms have been concealed there for a long time. It would certainly take several years to hoard them. It’s only now that we’re discovering them because this time, the information is coming from inmates themselves,” Olaguer said in a text message sent to Inquirer.net.

The contrabands were found in kubols, private areas occupied by high-profile inmates. The BuCor did not divulge the names of the occupants of the kubols where contrabands were confiscated.
