Gilas beats India, becomes top seeder in FIBA Asia quarterfinals

MANILA – Despite an unfavorable start, Gilas Pilipinas finished victoriously against India, with 99-65, and secured a top seeding for the team in the FIBA Asia Championship on Tuesday.

Leading as much as five points in the first quarter, India was surpassed by Gilas as the latter took the lead in the second quarter.

Apart from its defeat against Palestine in the FIBA Asia opener, the Philippine national team won in the succeeding five games.

Terrence Romeo registered 20 points, Andray Blatche had 15 points and Ranidel de Ocampo had 13, while Jason Castro, Calvin Abueva and Marc Pingris contributed 12 points each.

Gilas has then been set to play against Jordan or Lebanon in the quarterfinals.
