MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced on Sunday that it would put up concrete barriers in two areas on the northbound and southbound lanes of Edsa beginning today.
MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said this is to discourage swerving which may lead to accidents and result in heavy traffic.
Tolentino noted that the snail-paced traffic flow in the past weeks were due to accidents.
“From Thursday until Friday, we noted around 40 accidents on Metro streets,” he said.
He added that motorists fail to realize that accidents, even the minor ones could cause heavy traffic.
Tolentino also identified what he described as “traffic conflict areas” where the concrete barriers will be placed.
The areas include Edsa northbound in Guadalupe, Makati City and Edsa southbound after Connecticut in San Juan City.
Tolentino also said that the move will reduce accidents and ensure the safety of motorists.
