Cinemalaya’s “Silong” to end film fest at CCP on Aug. 14

MANILA — The 11th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition this year will end on Aug. 14 ; bringing down the curtains at the Cultural Center of the Philippines at 9 p.m. on Roxas Blvd, Pasay City.

Well-known stage actors and writers Jeffrey Hidalgo and Roy Sevilla Ho’s “Silong” (Shelter) will close the filmfest with their heart-rending masterpiece.

“Silong” is about a doctor who is still mourning the death of his wife while scrambling to save the family home from creditors.

As he drives home one day, he finds a badly beaten and bloodied woman on a deserted country road and takes her home to nurse back to health.

ABS-CBN stable TV and movie actor Piolo Pascual plays the doctor with GMA’s fine teleserye actress Rhian Ramos as the woman he rescues.

Freelance beauty Angel Jacob plays the doctor’s wife.

Cinemalaya opened on Aug.7 and will conclude on Aug. 15 with the awarding ceremonies at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).
