MANILA — Some parts of La Union remain without power Monday as the province’s transmission facilities were affected by Tropical Cyclone “Egay” on Sunday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said.
The NGCP said in a statement that the La Union municipalities of Bacnotan, San Gabriel, Santol, Luna, Bangar, Sudipen and San Juan still have no power as of 9:00 a.m. Monday.
Aside from La Union, Sugpon in Ilocos Sur also had power cuts on Sunday.
The areas share the Bacnotan-Bulala 69-kilovolts (kV) line, which was affected by TC “Egay” at 10:00 a.m. on July 5.
Pangasinan also had brownouts Sunday, which lasted for about two hours, due to the affected Labrador-Bolinao 69 kV line.
Residents of Labrador, Sual, Alaminos, Mabini, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Agno, Bani, Anda and Bolinao lost power from 12:57 pm. to 3:07 p.m. on Sunday.
NGCP stressed the power outages might have been brought by either affected transmission facilities or distribution facilities of electric cooperatives (ECs).
It added the area where power cuts will occur are decided by ECs.
The NGCP further noted it had prepared to reduce the impact of TC Egay on its operation and facilities, such as availability of hardware materials and supplies needed to repair damage.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has estimated TC Egay’s location 150 kilometers (kms) West Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte as of 8:00 a.m., July 6.
