MANILA — After the Office of the Ombudsman issued the second suspension order against Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin ‘JunJun’ Binay Jr., throngs of supporters flocked to the Makati City Hall in aid of the contested mayor.

Members of the National Capital Region Police Office were sent to barricade the City Hall, which ended up contributing to the already tense situation.

According to a report from dzMM radio Monday night, Vice President Jejomar ‘Jojo’ Binay — father of Mayor JunJun Binay — went to the City Hall and confronted a police officer for allegedly shoving a Binay relative.

Chief Inspector Gideon Ginez reportedly pushed Aida Dizon, VP Binay’s sister-in-law, while trying to get inside the City Hall premises. Binay confronted Ginez, who denied pushing Dizon or anybody else.

In an Inquirer report, Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias said VP Binay — later joined by daughter Senator Nancy Binay — also confronted him regarding the police-enforced barricades.

In the confrontation, Jamias said he refused to remove the barricades after Binay’s orders. The Vice President allegedly pointed his finger at Jamias at one point during the confrontation. Jamias, the ground commander from Southern Police District, said he will file charges against the Vice President.

As of posting, the younger Binay remains in the City Hall, with a copy of the suspension order already posted at the entrance of the building Tuesday morning.
