MANILA – Despite reports that Senator Grace Poe had been eyed by several possible presidential candidates as their running mate in the 2016 national elections, the senator clarified that she still had no final plans yet for the coming elections.

President Benigno Aquino III met with Poe last week and he was vocal on saying that he wanted a candidate who would continue the reforms he started during his administration. But again, Poe clarified that there was no talk of any post in the administrative slate offered to her.

“The President and I met and he reiterated the importance of selecting a candidate who will continue the programs of reform and good governance. No mention of what particular position,” she said in a statement.

Even though Poe continued to stay mum on her political plans for 2016, sources say a possibility of a Roxas-Poe, Lacson-Poe or Escudero-Poe tandem in the coming elections. However, the senator downplayed all rumors.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who already said that he will be running for vice president in the 2016 elections, believed that Poe would be a good competitor should she run for the same post.

Trillanes also called out to former senator Manuel Villar to run again for presidency.

“Villar’s vast experience as a lawmaker and impressive management skills as a businessman give him an edge among the presidential timber,” he said.

Villar, for his part, said that he was not interested in running again next year.
