MANILA — A transport group on Wednesday has sought for the suspension of the implementation of the law imposing a mandatory age limit for the use of school transport services aged 15 years or older.
Instead of imposing a mandatory age limit, the National Alliance of School Service Associations of the Philippines has asked the board to base when to limit the use of school transport services from its overall working condition.
To recall, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) earlier imposed Memorandum Circular 2013-006, dated October 2013 in efforts to improve the transport industry’s safety measures.
“No units shall be allowed to be confirmed if age is more than 15 years, even if the Certificate of Public Convenience is still valid,” the memorandum noted.
However, the board has maintained that it has operators enough time to replace their phased-out units.
The board began implementing the new law in the beginning of the year.
