MANILA – A 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook Nepal on Saturday, April 25, claiming thousands of lives as its capital city of Kathmandu and neighboring towns were buried in rubble.

Search and rescue operations continue as strong aftershocks hit the Himalayan region after the quake. The earthquake also triggered avalanches in the Himalayan mountains, where about 20 climbers died and more were injured.
