MANILA – Kapamilya actress Erich Gonzales had recently broken up with her four-year nonshowbiz boyfriend.
Television host Kris Aquino, who is a close friend of the actress, confirmed the split on the Wednesday episode of “Aquino & Abunda Tonight.”
“Tinanong ko diretsahan na tanong. Sinabi ko ‘Are you still in a relationship now? Because the last time na nagpo-promote ka ng finale ng Two Wives sa The Buzz, sinabi mo you’re in a four-year relationship. Does that still hold true now?,” Aquino said, mentioning that she texted Gonzales earlier that day.
(I directly asked. I said, ‘Are you still in a relationship now? Because the last time that you were promoting the finale of Two Wives in The Buzz, you said that you were in a four-year relationship. Does that still hold true now?)
Gonzales then replied with ‘No more, Ate.’
Aquino also clarified that Gonzales was never engaged; explaining that the diamond ring the actress wore was not an engagement ring but a ‘promise ring.’
“She has never been engaged. Never. Klaruhin po natin nung nag guest siya… we had a baking session that time and she had a diamond solo ring. And tinanong ko if that was an engagement ring, and she said no, it was not,” Aquino recalled.

“It was a gift, a promise ring. Parang ganun (Something like that), but not an engagement ring,” she added.
Aside from Gonzales’ ‘promise ring’, other speculations came up regarding the issue.
Sources said that her ex-boyfriend’s parents did not like her for their son while others said that her ex-boyfriend actually had an estranged wife and was not yet annulled.
However, Gonzales’ earlier statements dismissed those rumors.
“May ganyan? Sino nagsabe niyan? Hindi… Wala naman po akong tinatago. I’m very okay sa family niya. Gusto nila ako. Ako yung anak nilang babae kasi only son lang siya. So, sobrang blessed ko talaga,” Gonzales said in an interview on “The Buzz.”
(There are rumors like that? Who are the sources? No… I’m not hiding anything. I’m very okay with his family. They like me. They treat me like their daughter because he’s an only child. So, I’m really blessed.)
“[He’s] certified single and ready to mingle with me,” she added.
At present, Gonzales is rumored anew, this time about becoming close with Brapanese model-actor Daniel Matsunaga, who was her costar in “Two Wives” and frequent alongside guest in “Kris TV.”
Speculations on Gonzales and Matsunaga being ‘more than just friends’ heightened as the two constantly posted photos of them together.
In one the actor’s photos, he captioned it with a Portuguese phrase translating to ‘Special dinner tonight with my beautiful date.’

Gonzales, on the other hand, recently shared a photo of her with the actor and his mom. She also captioned it in Portuguese meaning ‘I am blessed to meet people who are beautiful not only in appearance but also inside.’

It can be recalled that in an earlier interview on “Aquino & Abunda Tonight,” Matsunaga admitted that he would pursue Gonzales if the actress was single but would keep his distance in respect of her relationship at that time.
“Maganda naman siya.[but] siyempre I came with very good parents and they taught me the right thing to do. Siyempre may respeto ako para sa sarili ko. So,‘yun. Kay Erich, sa boyfriend niya as well. In God’s time. Everything happens for a reason,” he said, explaining why he would not court her then.
