MANILA — Despite public pronouncements that Senator Grace Poe is not interested to seek the highest position in the land saying she lacks political experience, big political parties are not stopping in courting her to try her luck.

This was admitted by Liberal Party (LP) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) who have official allies to make backdoor negotiations.

At the weekly forum, Ugnayan sa Batasan, Marikina City Rep. Miro Quimbo and Valenzuela City Rep. Sherwin Gatchalian said every political party has its own inner core who negotiates with people whom they think can give them booster to outshine opposing parties.

“I am not privy to the negotiations but I think the few good men of the party are making their moves to court whoever they think can deliver positive results,” Quimbo told reporters.

For his part, Gatchalian said “it is just natural for every political party to have a core group who can make a backdoor negotiations if the top executives decided to neutralized opposing parties.”

Both Quimbo and Gatchalian admitted that they are not part of the group but they have information that there are people trying to persuade Senator Poe to seek for higher position.

Asked by reporters if there is a possibility that Poe can be the standard bearer of the administration, Quimbo said “everything is possible. Political climate is very fluid and we are not closing our doors to any eventuality.”

He explained that mid of October, “everything will be clearer because that is the deadline for submission of candidacy and we will take our cue from there.”

He said the final decision is still in the hands of the President who will chose the standard bearer who is capable of continuing the “right path” or “tuwid na daan” which President Aquino has started.

For now, he said, Secretary Mar Roxas is still their principal for 2016 elections.

“It could be Poe – Roxas or Roxas – Poe. We will know in the coming months,” Quimbo stressed.

Gatchalian said if the rumor is true that the camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay is also enticing Poe to throw her hat into the presidential arena, she is only good for VP.

He said combination matters most and political alliances play another role to get the needed votes plus charisma of the candidates.

“With this combinations, candidates will have a bigger edge to win the votes of the electorate and be given a chance to serve the people,” Gatchalian concluded.
