MANILA — Beginning Monday, passengers flying via Philippine Airlines (PAL) will be permitted to enter the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 (NAIA 2) after simply showing the tickets on their electronic devices.
According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Saturday, the “paperless procedure” is set to be piloted at Terminal 2 for the first time.
Instead of having to show paper documents, passengers flying via PAL can show airport security images of their e-ticket on their smart phones, tablets and laptops.
However, MIAA said that passengers should make it a point that the image should match the one sent by PAL to the passenger’s device when the ticket was purchased.
PAL representatives will be temporarily posted at Terminal 2 entrance to assist passengers and security personnel in applying the new scheme during the initial phase of implementation.
This initiative by PAL is in line with the mandate of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its member airlines to eliminate paper documents and move to a completely paperless environment by 2016.
Despite this new scheme, MIAA said that other forms of travel documents, including paper ones, will still be accepted during the initial phase of the project.
These include the traditional paper ticket, the printed itinerary receipt, and the printed e-boarding pass for passengers opting for web check-in.
MIAA, meanwhile, reminded passengers to bring their necessary travel documents such as valid identification cards with photograph and passports for security and check-in requirement.
