MANILA — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Friday said that the ocular inspection conducted by the DOJ-National Bureau of Investigation (DOJ-NBI) investigating team was very helpful in the ongoing investigation on the encounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
According to De Lima, they were able to confirm how wide was the area of the encounter.
Through the ocular inspection, De Lima said, they were able to validate the testimonies of the witnesses such as how far was their relative distance from the encounter area and what really they saw during the actual encounter.
She added that the testimony of a witness also “checked out” on the “physical set-up” of the area.
After the ocular inspection, De Lima said the DOJ-NBI investigation is still continuously gathering information on the Mamasapano encounter.
Likewise, De Lima said that they are also awaiting the official copy of the Board of Inquiry (BOI) Report, the Senate Report, which is expected to be released next week, as well as the result of the investigation conducted by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
