The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has shut down an employment agency that was purportedly behind the illegal recruitment of over 100 Filipinos for jobs in Japan.

Romelson Abang of the POEA said that authorities shut down the Antipolo-based Jomhadz International Corp. on Friday,  February 27, due to complaints from numerous applicants.

The job-seekers were allegedly duped by the recruitment agency, which charged each applicant a placement fee of PHP 150,000 for work at a wine factory in Japan. To date, none of the applicants have left the country.

Abang revealed that Jomhadz has no valid license from the POEA to engage in the recruitment of workers.

Authorities seized various documents, application forms and passports from the Jomhadz office. The owner and staff members of the bogus placement agency will be charged with illegal recruitment.
