Gabriel “Gab” Valenciano, the youngest son of Gary Valenciano is definitely making waves in the U.S. entertainment scene.
According to Balitang America, the University of California Los Angeles Hammer Museum hailed Gab Valenciano as a “cutting edge fresh film maker;” honouring and featuring him at the recently held Flux Screening Series.
Valenciano, a highly talented dancer and choreographer, is perhaps best-known for his “Super Selfies;” short video clips which feature his trademark dance moves, as well as his offbeat sense of humour.
He began making and uploading Super Selfies in August 2013, and has since developed quite a large following for his quirky, often zany, homemade dance videos; which feature funky choreography and a distinct editing style.
In November of 2014, Valenciano’s Super Selfie style became the inspiration for R&B superstar Beyonce’s “7/11” music video.
More recently, Valenciano directed Filipino-American singer and American Idol Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez’s music video “This Love”.
Flux and the Hammer Museum present a quarterly screening series showcasing inventive short films, music videos, features, filmmaker retrospectives and stimulating visual work from around the globe.
Gab Valenciano is the first Filipino to be honored at the event.
