MANILA — The Philippine government has vowed to provide all the necessary assistance to a Filipino woman who was sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking.
Without revealing the name of the Filipino prisoner, Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said she was arrested in Yogyakarta International Airport on April 25, 2010 after 2.6 kilograms of heroin was found in her possession.
“The DFA is aware of the case,” Jose said in a statement on Thursday. “The Philippine government is making all the appropriate representations with the Indonesian government at all levels on our intention to file a request for judicial review.”
The application for review was filed on Jan 19, 2015 at at the District Court of Justice of Sleman, Yogyakarta.
“We continue to provide the Filipino all necessary and possible assistance at all stages of the judicial process,” Jose said, adding the family of the Filipino is regularly updated on the case.
