A Korean businessman in Angeles City reported that he was framed by two policemen, who also subsequently demanded P1-M from him. The two errant cops were arrested on Tuesday night by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and by police officials of the Central Luzon region in a sting operation.

Based on the account of Chief Supt. Ronald Santos, the policemen allegedly accosted the Korean man for charges of human trafficking after the victim paid a “bar fine” in order to take out a sex worker from a night club on Fields Avenue.

However, after they seized the Korean man, the two policemen took him to their hideout, and not to the local jail.

“Instead of taking the Korean to jail, the policemen took him to a safe house. They demanded P1 million but the Korean managed to give only P200,000,” Santos said.

Santos detailed that the victim was freed and the cops were taken into custody when they attempted to collect the balance of P800,000.

He also noted that the improved coordination between the Korean community and the police in Angeles City had much to do with the successful release of the Korean man as well as the downfall of the two policemen,

“We are weeding out police scalawags victimizing foreigners [in Angeles City],” Santos added.

The policemen are currently being detained the CIDG. The identities of the cops, as well as of the Korean man, were not disclosed by authorities.
