MANILA, Philippines – A potential low pressure area (LPA) has been detected by state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forming outside the country’s area of responsibility.
PAGASA weatherman Aldczar Aurelio said that the new weather disturbance was spotted approximately 2,000 kilometers east of Mindanao, and that there is a possibility of its entry into the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
According to Aurelio, PAGASA has been expecting one or two tropical storms to enter the PAR this month of December.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) has now weakened into a tropical depression. Ruby pummeled parts of Luzon and Visayas over the weekend.
As of 5 a.m., Tuesday, Ruby was tracked at 80 kilometers southwest of Ambulong, Tanauan City, Batangas, moving at 13 kilometers per hour (kph), and is expected to leave the country by Wednesday evening.
