MANILA – Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday commended the Filipino doctors and nurses working at the Saudi German Hospital who cared for the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) beaten and left for dead in the desert in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
”I’m happy to hear about good things they said to Filipino. They are always there and ready to help when they are in other countries. That’s why I saw. Our OFWs help each other,” Binay said in a press statement.
Binay said the Philippine government would send gratitude letter to the Saudi German Hospital.
The Presidential Adviser on OFW Concerns met with the OFW and his parents Saturday evening at the Coconut Palace.
He assured the worker of government assistance as he begins his life anew in the Philippines.
He said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) would provide skills training to the OFW as part of the agency’s reintegration program for returning workers.
The Vice President said he would also facilitate the worker’s check up at the Ospital ng Makati before the latter returns to his hometown in Bukidnon.
The Office of the Vice president, along with the Blas F. Ople Center and Patnubay Riyadh, monitored the worker’s case to ensure his return to the country.
Binay said the OFW’s employer paid the hospital bill, with the government also contributing USD 26,000 through the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The OFW was comatose and in critical conditioned when he was found after he sustained serious head injuries and multiple bone fractures.
He was reportedly found by authorities in the early hours of May 16, fighting for his life.
