The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned the public yesterday about the possibility of big waves within the next 24 hours in the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.
According to the state weather bureau, the surge of the northeast monsoon may trigger gale winds over Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, northern coast of Cagayan, northern coast of Ilocos Norte, Isabela, and eastern coast of Cagayan; which would in turn create “rough to very rough” sea conditions”, with waves possibly reaching as high as 3.4 to 4.5 meters.
Gale warnings have been issued over these areas.
“Fishing boats and other small sea craft are advised not to venture out to the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” the bureau said.
Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, Eastern and Central Visayas and the provinces of Aurora, Negros Occidental and Surigao will experience light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, due to the tail-end of a cold front.
No tropical cyclone is forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this week, PAGASA added.
