MANILA — A Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight from Nagoya, Japan made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 after one of the plane’s engine malfunctioned on Friday afternoon.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that Pilot Captain Mercurion Fernandez and flight officer Ryan Surla declared the emergency status at 1 pm.
MIAA noted that the plane was about 8,000 feet above ground level and 15 nautical miles east of Metro Manila when the plane began experiencing problems with one of its engines.
The plane, which was an Airbus 320 with flight number PR 437, successfully made an emergency landing at 1:22 pm.
Management was quick to dispatch fire and rescue personnel along the runway.
Initial reports said that one of the plane’s engines shut down upon landing.
Despite the malfunction, all its 160 passengers and 10 crew members were unharmed.
At present, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is conducting an investigation on the cause of the engine shut down.
