TAGAYTAY CITY, Philippines—In light of his sudden decision to back-out of a debate with Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV originally scheduled for November 27, Vice President Jejomar  Binay on Thursday personally apologized to the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).

Binay showed-up unexpectedly at the KBP’s three-day conference in Taal Vista Hotel, during which he said: “I hope I will not be treated as a gate-crasher. This is a formal apology to the members of KBP. I know you had prepared for this [debate], you had informed your members there would be such a thing,”

The Vice President explained that hid decision to back out of the scheduled debated stemmed from a media interview on November 9. During the interview, he was asked by a reporter to to comment on Trillanes’ supposed “getting a tutor” in preparation for their debate.

Binay said that “If that’s the case, I’d rather that it not push through. I always had that feeling that, you know, the opposite of what I will say will come out in the end,” as he called  Trillanes an “opportunist.”

Binay stopped by Tagayatay City during a visit to particular towns in Cavite City to inaugurate facilities of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs.
