Malacañang announced yesterday that Friday, Oct. 31 is a regular working day and not a holiday; as many had hoped it would be.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said over dzRB radio that the suspension of work on the eve of All Saints’ Day would be at the companies’ discretion.

The 31st, Coloma pointed out, is not included in Proclamation 655, which lists the declared regular holidays and special non-working holidays for 2014.

Nov. 1 (All Saints’ Day) and Nov. 2 (All Souls’ Day), although on that list as declared special non-working holidays, fall on Saturday and Sunday.

The remaining regular holidays for the year are Nov. 30 (Bonifacio Day), Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) and Dec. 30 (Rizal Day); while the remaining special non-working holidays are Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve), Dec. 26 (a Friday) and the last day of the year, Dec. 31 (a Wednesday).
