MANILA – No Filipino was reported injured in Japan’s volcano eruption in Nagano prefecture which may have killed 31 people when it erupted without warning on Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

DFA spokesman Charles Jose said this was the information relayed to the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo by the Nagano Prefecture Risk Management Division.

There are 3,840 Filipinos in Nagano and 9,352 in nearby Gifu, Jose said.

“Our embassy in Tokyo is monitoring the developments in the eruption of Mount Ontake located between Nagano and Gifu prefectures. Alert level 3 is still up where people are warned not to approach the volcano,” Jose said.
